I am 22 years old and I have probably cooked a turkey maybe 4 times in my whole life. It was never for something big or for any guest coming over. This year Lance and I decided that we wanted to host Thanksgiving at our place. We thought it would be fun. Lance and I also had a personal bet going on weather or not his mom would come out to our place for dinner. I, of course won.
I started cooking dinner at 1130am finished cooking 6pm on the dot. I'm one of those people that likes to push their cooking ability, try cooking things I've never cooked before. Lance usually asks me "what's for dinner?" and gets the reply "something I've never made before" "Oooh experimenting again, haha" he'll say. For Thanksgiving Lance asked to please keep it simple not to get too over the top. I agreed.
I of course could not wait to try new ideas for Thanksgiving.
First was the turkey,
Maple Glazed Turkey with Sage Butter.
-Finely chop fresh Sage and mix it in with a stick of butter
-pull up the skin of the turkey(careful, not to poke a hole)
-massage the butter mix under the skin right into the meat
-salt n' pepper the top of the turkey
-Place bacon across the breast
-foil and in the oven it goes
-350 degrees for 2 hours then you can start basting
-Maple syrup with 2 tbsp of hot water
-Continue basting every 30 to 45 minutes until turkey is done
-last 30 minutes uncover turkey so it can brown
Turkey actually turned out great. Lance was a little uncertain about it as it went in the oven, but was happy when it came out. I will be honest, I made Candied Yams and they did not turn out the way I wanted them to. They where not thick enough at all. Still good everyone said but, I was not impressed. I will keep that recipe and play with it a bit until it works out and then I'll pass it along to you guys.

Next, potatoes!
Mashed Tatoes
-peel desired amount of potatoes
-boil until soft
-mash with a potato masher
-add butter
-add milk
-add salt n' pepper
-throw in some Cilantro
-and a couple squeezes of Italian dressing
Very good potatoes with lots of flavor. I also made Turnips. Now Lance said that I couldn't play with the turnips at all, he wanted your standard play Jane Turnips. Boil, mash, salt and pepper thats it(a little boring if you ask me).
Salads! We had a plain ol' garden salad and a cucumber n' onion salad.

Cucumber N' Onion Salad
-peel cucumber and slice
-peel onion
-cut onion in half
-then slice
-mix in ranch dressing
Quick, simple and delicious. My stuffing or dressing however you like to call it was made in the moment. I'd love to tell you all how I did it but, I honestly don't recall everything I put in there.
Overall I'd say hosting my first Thanksgiving dinner service was a success. I enjoyed it! I hope everyone else had a good Thanksgiving too.
