The other night I was cooking dinner, Spaghetti; Lance realized that there was going to be way to much food for just two. He said that we should invite Chris for dinner. I invite, Chris came and we ate. After dinner I was in the computer room playing around with a Japanese IQ test (http://www.robmathiowetz.com/ give it a try) when Lance comes in the room and ask me if we can rescue an abandoned kitten. Well anyone that knows me already, knows that there was no way I could say no to a kitten.
The story I was told was that a new family moved into town and in the there new place there was kittens who lived under the step, four of them. For some reason the people that moved in could not bring them in, they made them a bed outside and gave them food from time to time. In the last week or so the four kittens slowly became two kittens and there is no mother to be found. It is the end of October and people that are not familiar with the Northern Alberta region this means that it is started to get cold(rain, hail, frost, snow ect.). It was 0 C (32F) this morning with a wind chill that made it -6C(21.2F), which isn’t even cold up here yet, we get winter that get to -40C(-40F). A kitten with no mother probably wouldn’t make the winter through. The local S.P.C.A up here is not much help either you pay to drop off these poor animals and then the S.P.C.A gets and disease (which happens often here) or their not adopted fast enough and their put down anyway.
So of course when Lance asked me I said yes. We went and got one of the kittens. We have named him Tuk (after a polar bear that used to live in the zoo). Meekah was excited with the new addition, a little over playful at times. She scares this poor kitten (that has only known a dog as a threat) by her jumping, pawing and playful taunting. Gizmo is not so quick to welcome this stranger into her home, but I’m sure that in a few days when they get used to each other that things will be fine between the them. I welcomed Tuk into our household with a nail clipping and a nice warm bath. Welcome Tuk to the family!
